We encourage parents to use this facility as we sell good quality clothing and any profit from this shop is utilized to upgrade your child’s educational facilities and needs.
SCHOOL & SPORT UNIFORM
Girls’ Uniform:
Grade R Uniform – Blue / yellow / red house shirt with regulation denim shorts or
longs.
Shoes – Sandals or slip on shoes may be worn
– Learners who can tie their shoelaces independently may wear
tekkies with white ankle-length socks
Fleece top – House coloured fleece top may be worn
Excursions & White golf shirt, green shorts and tekkies with white ankle-length
school photos – socks
Grades 1 to 7 Dress – Green dress with white trim and green buttons
Shoes – Black strap, lace-up or tear-drop shoes.
We are in the process of phasing out brown shoes. As of January
2023 only black shoes will be allowed.
– No open sandals are allowed
Socks – White ankle-length
– Optional – Flesh coloured tights or stockings in winter with
white socks to be worn over tights/stockings
Jersey – Dark green v-necked, no collar, long-sleeved / pull over
Boys’ Uniform:

Girls’ & Boys’
Tracksuits – Plain, bottle green, Quantec, school tracksuits are optional for Terms 2, 3 and 4.
– Full tracksuits may not be worn during the first term, but tracksuit tops worn over school uniform or PE kit are allowed.
– Learners my only wear tracksuits with their white golf shirt,
school socks and school shoes.
– Tracksuit pants may not be worn on its own and have to be worn with a tracksuit jacket. Tracksuit pants may not be worn with a jersey or anorak.
Anoraks – Bottle green anoraks without wording, branding or pictures may be
worn.
Tekkies: – Plain, white tekkies is preferred and may have velcro or laces.
– Coloured tekkies may be used as long as it is exercise tekkies and not fashion tekkies eg light-ups / wheelies / glitter / metallic colours
Other: – If a learner is wearing a vest underneath a shirt, no part of the vest
should be visible / sticking out
Schoolbags: – Northdene Preparatory School bags are obtainable from
the Uniform Shop
– Learners may use plain black or bottle green, pull along bags or back packs that have no pictures, branding or wording on it.
– Bags and back packs should have sufficient support for textbooks and books.
– Learners who have “pull along” bags that are difficult to handle, will not be allowed to use them.
– If a learner uses a “pull along” bag, he / she must be able to move up and down stairs independently, without assistance from another learner or staff member.
GENERAL
Hair: General – No learner may colour his/her hair.
– No gel may be worn in hair
Girls – Girls’ hair must at all times be neat and out of their eyes and
tied back if it touches the collar. Only bottle green, black or white
hair accessories may be worn.
– Braids are allowed, but no beads or other adornments may be added.
Boys – Boys’ hair must be kept reasonably short and neat (short back and
sides).
– Hair may not have a step or patterns in it
Accessories:
Watches – Plain silver, gold, black or leather wristwatches may be worn.
Fashion watches in various colours are not permitted.
Smart watches are not allowed.
Earrings – Girls’ pierced ears may have plain, round small studs or plain blank
sleepers only (no diamonds or stones). Only one earring in the
bottom lobe part of each ear may be worn.
– Boys may not wear earrings or substitutes.
Adornments – No other form of jewellery or adornment (including tattoos, henna
and mehndi) is permitted.
SPORT UNIFORM
PE & Sport practices:
Gr R – Blue / yellow / red house shirt with regulation denim shorts or longs.
“Tekkies” are compulsory for hockey and cricket practices
Gr 1 to 7 girls – Blue / yellow / red house shirt and green shorts with white ankle-length socks /
regulation long green school socks and “tekkies”
– Gr 7 girls may wear black, Quantec baggy shorts over their swimming costumes.
Gr 1 to 7 boys – Blue / yellow / red house shirt and white shorts with white ankle-length / long
brown school / regulation green sport socks and “tekkies”
Netball – Green skort / green shorts, white Northdene golf shirt and
white ankle-length socks and ‘tekkies’
Hockey (Girls) – Green skort / green shorts and white Northdene golf shirt with
long green school sport socks and ‘tekkies’
Mouth guards and shin guards are compulsory
Hockey (Boys) – White shorts and white Northdene golf shirt with long green school
sport socks and ‘tekkies’
– Mouth and shin guards are compulsory
Soccer (Girls) – Green skort / green shorts and white Northdene golf shirt with
long green school sport socks and soccer boots / ‘tekkies’
– Shin guards are compulsory
Soccer (Boys) – White shorts and white Northdene golf shirt with long green school
sport socks and soccer boots / ‘tekkies’
– Shin guards are compulsory
Cricket – White shorts, golf shirt, long green school sport socks and
white ‘tekkies’ or cricket shoes
– Abdo guards are compulsory
Rugby – Black shorts & school rugby jersey
– Mouth guards are compulsory
Touch Rugby (Girls) – Green skort / green shorts and white school golf shirt.
– No shoes to be worn as learners play barefoot.
Touch Rugby (Boys) – Black shorts and white school golf shirt.
– No shoes to be worn as learners play barefoot.
Cross-Country (Girls) – Green shorts and white school golf shirt with short white ankle-length socks.
– ‘Tekkies’ are compulsory
Cross-Country (Boys) – White shorts and white school golf shirt with short white ankle-length socks.
– ‘Tekkies’ are compulsory
Other:
– Tights may be worn under shorts as long as it is not visible and matches
the colour short (bottle green / white / black).
– “Skins” (long sleeved sport shirts) may be worn for cricket fixtures
and competitive athletics.
– Green school peak caps or hats may be worn for PE or extra murals.
– Green school PE bag or any other sport bag may be used for sport kit
or equipment.
Swimming – Only regulation school costumes (black Speedo or full FINA approved racing swimsuit) and house swimming caps must be worn.
– Learners who swim in the school team should be wearing a bottle
green, school swimming cap.
– Please see Annexure A for guidelines pertaining to the type of
swimsuits accepted as well as the fabric it should be made of.
(a) Speedo / Maxed type / style of costumes:
– Below are examples of the black regulation school Speedo / Maxed type / style of costumes that are allowed for swimming. These costumes are found at clothing stores like PEP, Ackermans, Mr Price Sport, Edgars and Woolworths.
– For PE lessons both boys and girls will be allowed to wear black baggies over these costumes.
– No “tights” are allowed for swimming either on its own or worn under baggies.
(b) Boys’ Jammers
Fabric:
– A jammer is made of Nylon and Lycra / Spandex material, but may be made of polyester PBT
which has a natural stretch factor similar to Lycra. The materials usually dry fairly quickly.
– Fabrics that are mostly composed of Nylon (from 80% to 90%) but also have a significant amount of Lycra or Spandex (10% to 20%) are allowed. Nylon is lightweight and offers a smooth fit.
– Jammers from suppliers like Totalsports, Sportsmans Warehouse, Mr Price Sport etc. will be allowed as long as the costumes adhere to the above fabric and construction specifications.
– Please note that these costumes might not have the Fina label of accreditation due to it being sold by major chain stores.
(c) FINA approved costumes:
– Full FINA approved costumes comes with a label of accreditation and is recommended for learners who compete competitively as these costumes are quite expensive.
– NPS-approved swimsuits must be black and may not extend below the knee.
– In addition, a boys’ suit may not extend above the navel, while a girls’ suit should not cover the neck or extend past the shoulders.
Construction of swimwear:
– Zippers or any other fastening systems are forbidden.
– Seams are limited to functional systems and must not create outside shapes.
(d) Skin conditions:
– Learners who have skin conditions will need to bring a letter from a dermatologist at the beginning of each year before they will be allowed to wear a full bodysuit.

Teams
Learners who are part of Soccer, Hockey or Rugby teams will wear shirts provided by the school and green socks which are available at the Uniform Shop.
Learners will be informed if they are required to have a white golf shirt for team sports.
Jewellery, other than watches, studs or sleepers, may not be worn for sporting activities.
It is strongly advised that good quality clothing be purchased for your child’s uniform – it will give far better service.
All clothing and personal items must be clearly labelled.
